Worth trying to fix this go-bar accident gone bad or start over? Had the bass bar slip putting on the last rod... two splits one very long and one right about where the bridge will go, I'm almost certain it ruined but thought i'd ask any way. |

It is certainly repairable, and if it was a top on an old violin it would be repaired. If it was for me and I was otherwise happy with it I would fix it. |

I'm not very experienced with this type of fix but it is just a practice build for me so i would not mind attempting it, can always start over if it doesn't work out. I've been using hot hide glue for everything so far, what would you recommend for the repair? I was planning on just doing a traditional spirit varnish for the finish with possible dying the wood first. |

Definitely use HHG and some tiny cleats would be good insurance. |

Where would you locate the cleats? near the middle of the crack or would you place them at the ends to discourage it from propagating further? Appreciate all the help! Edit: Actually now that i think about it the bass bar would be glued almost entirely over the crack, so that may help some. |

The bass bar may negate the need for any splints. |
